CURRENTLY IN SCIENCE CLASS

Fifth Grade
Resources and assignments are available on Google Classroom to review science content standards that we have been studying throughout the school year.  These topics are listed below.

Topic: Interactions within Ecosystems This topic focuses on foundational knowledge of the structures and functions of ecosystems.

Topic: Cycles and Patterns in the Solar System This topic focuses on the characteristics, cycles and patterns in the solar system and within the universe.

Topic: Light, Sound and Motion This topic focuses on the forces that affect motion. This includes the relationship between the change in speed of an object, the amount of force applied and the mass of the object. Light and sound are explored as forms of energy that move in predictable ways, depending on the matter through which they move.

Sixth Grade
Resources and assignments are available on Google Classroom to review science content standards that we have been studying throughout the school year.  These topics are listed below.

Topic: Cellular to Multicellular This topic focuses on the study of the basics of Modern Cell Theory. All organisms are composed of cells, which are the fundamental unit of life. Cells carry on the many processes that sustain life. All cells come from pre-existing cells.

Topic: Rocks, Minerals and Soil This topic focuses on the study of rocks, minerals and soil, which make up the lithosphere. Classifying and identifying different types of rocks, minerals and soil can decode the past environment in which they formed.

Topic: Matter and Motion This topic focuses on the study of foundational concepts of the particulate nature of matter, linear motion, and kinetic and potential energy.

Dear fifth and sixth grade parents,

My name is Becky Price. I teach fifth and sixth grade science here at Mohawk Local School. I hope everyone enjoyed the long summer break and are now ready to begin the 2019/2020 school year.

This year in fifth and sixth grade science we will be reading and learning about many new topics Included within these topics will be projects, research activities and other various assignments.

Classroom Expectations: Students are expected to come to class prepared. They need to have a pencil along with their science textbook, notebook and folder. It is the student’s responsibility to make sure that homework assignments and projects are completed and handed in on time. I understand that many families are very busy and lack of time can be an issue during the week, so we try hard to get as much work done as possible in class. Information about assignments, projects and test dates will be written in the student’s assignment books, posted on the classroom website and also sent through the app, Remind. Information on the app, Remind, was sent home separately. If you did not get the information and would like it, please let me know.

Loss of Learning Opportunities: Students have a warrior card that is attached to the inside of their assignment book. Information about the warrior card has been sent home separately. This sheet is used to note behavior problems, missing assignments and other issues such as these. Parents are asked to sign the student assignment book weekly to stay updated on any issues that may occur during the school day. Each student was given a red folder, “Classroom Connector,” that will need to be checked by parents each night for important information coming home.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with questions or concerns. Becky.price@mohawklocal.org.
