What we are working on this week!

 This year the first grade teachers will be using Phonics First. Phonics First is a multisensory, systematic, structured, sequential, phonics-based, direct-instruction teaching system.  Our spelling tests will also come from our Phonics First instruction. Students will be asked to spell 4 red words and 6 that follow our spelling pattern in class. They will need to be able to apply the sounds that they learned rather than memorize a list of words.

 

Sight Words: near, hard, found, write, would, woman

Practice red words: no new, just review

 

 Reading and Spelling test Friday! Students will be reading the stories on their own now.

 Reading-  visualizing, sequence of events

Structural Analysis- compound words

Phonics- long e words ( ey, y)

Writing- writing at least 3 sentences on a given topic with proper sentence structure

Grammar- verbs past and present tense

Math- topic 15- Geometry

Phonics First- Mrs. Yarger’s group-words with three letter blends

Mrs. Lange’s group- 2-syllable words

 

Spelling Practice

Practice red words: no new red words this week

Mrs. Lange’s group- 2-syllable words Ex: magnet, public, tablet, cactus, goblin, campus, napkin 

 

Mrs. Yarger’s group- three letter blends with scr-, shr-, spl-, spr-, squ-, str- Ex: scrap, shrub, splash, spring, squish, strip

1.Practice reading this week’s sight words and words on their list.
2.Reading log- due Monday!!
3.Practice addition flashcards- timed tests on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Students are timed for 1 minute! Please keep practicing!
