Welcome to First Grade!
We are now beginning Layer 2 in Phonics First. Friday spelling tests will now include the Red Word of the week and a dictation sentence (review of previously taught red words). We practice the spelling pattern(s) throughout the week. While we don't study from a list, words that we practice writing in class are often included on weekly tests.

Phonics First® is a multisensory, systematic, structured, sequential, phonics-based, direct-instruction teaching system. Students who use the Phonics First® system make significant gains in reading and spelling while building a lifelong understanding of the structure of language.
